I first became interested in photography on our first international trip -- to Europe in 1969 using a camera borrowed from my brother. A couple years later I bought my first SLR and enjoyed photography as a hobby and as a way to chronicle our trips and family over the years.
My interest took a quantum leap in 2003 when I bought my first digital, a Nikon Coolpix 5700 before our trip to Peru. From that point I was hooked. I loved digital because I could see my results immediately, easily manage the photos, and do some editing myself.
I became passionate in 2007 when I bought my first Digital SLR, a Nikon D80, prior to our trip to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. I loved the quality, the control, the incredibly rich and immediate feedback. After many workshops, studying, and shooting, I began to realize that others enjoyed my images as well. My wife Dianne and friends kept telling me they thought I had a “good eye”, and of course this spurred me on even more.
In late 2012 I upgraded my DSLR to a Nikon D800, which at the time was an incredible 36 megapixel full frame camera that represented a quantum leap in DSLR technology. In 2021 I made the latest upgrade to the brand new Nikon Z7 ii, the newest mirrorless camera that represented another leap in quality, flexibility, and technology. The photos from 2nd half of 2021 and beyond showcase this excellent camera.
