Welcome to our spring 2024 trip to Chile to visit Easter Island and the Atacama Desert. We explored both areas extensively with Explora Lodge, an exploration company based in some of the most remote areas of South America. Easter Island is generally well known for the giant statues (called moai) that stand at many spots along the island's shores. Learning the history and legacy of these statues and other cultural practices was a great experience and education. The Atacama is an area that couldn't be more different from the Easter Island. The huge (800-1,000 miles long) northern region of mainland Chile is a dry desert plateau that ranges from 8,000' to over 14,000' in elevation. The landscape is almost “otherworldly,” as I hope you'll enjoy while exploring the photos.
I've grouped this trip into two collections. The first shares our adventures and history lessons in Easter Island and the second our exploration of the Atacama Desert.
