This young woman spends her day on the lookout for whales, alerting whale watching boats.
Historically, this was a major whaling center, but all was done just offshore. Watchers sighted the whales just like this and sounded an alert triggering young men from the village to rush to the shore, hop in their small boats and sail/row out to the whale's location, guided by signal flags from the spotter.
