In Agrigento we explored the famous Valley of the Temples. From Ragusa we drove to Syracuse to tour a fascinating ancient Greek and Roman town, now the Neapolis Archaeological Park and a UNESCO World Heritage site that's currently adorned with modern artwork by Igor Motoraj. On our last day, we traveled to Taormina, a beautiful, historic town on the cliffs along the northeast coast. The area was home to the Sicels during the Iron Age, but the city was first founded by the Greeks in 396 BCE. Beyond the historic city one can view the remarkably intact Greek theatre (Teatro Antico di Taormina), climb hundreds of steps to visit the Norman castle, the Roman church (Madonna dell Rocca), or Castelmole the village on the cliffs.
