After departing Madagascar, we traveled to Cape Town, South Africa. Our first venture to this part of mainland Africa. We chose to focus on the city and the large surrounding regions along the beautiful coastline on the southern tip of Africa and the vineyards north of the city. Cape Town is a bustling, modern city with a beautiful waterfront and of course the magnificent Table Mountain on its west coast. Unfortunately we didn't get to ride the cable car to the top of the mountain because of severe winds and two days of monsoon weather. But we did get some wonderful views of Table Mountain and got to travel down the beautiful coast to the Cape of Good Hope, and to several of the excellent vineyards north of the city. We also had the privilege of visiting Robben Island, the prison island where Nelson Mandela and many other political prisoners were held until the end of apartheid in 1996.
